Monthly Automatic EFT – The main requirement for this payment method is that payments come automatically out of a bank account.
Quarterly – the least recommended option- you get a bill every 3 months and can pay online, in the office, or with the app. Accepted payment methods are Credit card (Visa or Master Card), EFT from a bank account, or check.
Semi-Annually – This provides a good reminder to look over your policy twice per year. Accepted payment methods are Credit card (Visa or Master Card), EFT from a bank account, or check.
Annually – a great way to pay. One payment and forget it for a whole year. Farm Bureau doesn’t charge fees for using a credit card, so if you get cash back or points, this is a great option.
What makes Farm Bureau policies different from other companies?
It all starts with the fact that our company is headquartered in Pocatello, Idaho. Our claims people all live in Idaho and probably know the stretch of road where your accident happened.
It also helps that your agent can submit a claim for you to help expedite the process.
Many of our clients who have had to work with other insurance companies comment on how much faster their claim was taken care of at Farm Bureau.
Are there more details about insurance liability for ATVs and toys?
How does it work at most companies?
The liability portion of your homeowners or renters insurance policy generally covers these items as long as they are on your property. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help most people because they usually have claims off of their property.
Sometimes this means that you have to purchase a separate liability policy for these items. Often we see different limits on these policies or they are with different companies.
How does the liability coverage work at Farm Bureau?
Farm Bureau has broadened this coverage so there is liability coverage wherever you use your toys as long as they are listed on the policy.
We don’t necessarily need serial numbers to list them on your policy, just a total quantity. For example, 2 ATVs 1 Boat, and 3 Dirt-bikes.
While there aren’t any fees for these items on an underlying policy, if you have an umbrella policy there is a small fee.
What if I need more than liability coverage?
Material damage coverage on ATVs works the same way comprehensive and collision work on your car. This would be covered to help replace the ATV if something happened to it. If there is a loan, material damage coverage is generally required.
What is the limitation on guns? Can I increase the limit?
The Short answer is Yes.
Farm Bureau homeowners and renters policies include a sub limit on Guns *. These limits are subject to underwriter approval, but it’s no problem to request as much as you need.
Theft of Firearms & Accessories
At Farm Bureau, the limitation on the theft of firearms, optics & attachments is limited to $4,000. That limit can be increased to as much as you need. No Serial numbers are required to increase the theft of Guns Limit. This coverage will provide coverage such that if your Glock 43 is stolen, you can go out and buy a comparable Glock 43.
Special Pieces (like collector’s items)
If you happen to have Wyatt Earp’s Colt .45 Revolver in your collection, it needs special coverage. Increased theft of guns on the property section would pay enough like you were going to go out and purchase another Colt .45 revolver.
This particular gun was sold at auction for $225,000 on April 17, 2014. It should be added to the inland marine section of the policy instead of the property section. The gun would also need a serial number listed and a signed recent appraisal to be added to your Farm Bureau policy.
If this item is listed on your policy this way, the policy would pay out a maximum of $225,000.
*As always, see your individual policy for details.
I have a garage full of tools, what are the limitations?
Tools have a limitation on the policy for $8,000. This limit can be increased. Keep in mind, tools on your personal policy shouldn’t be used in a business.
If you use your tools in a business, we can add them to a commercial policy for you.
What is the limitation on jewelry?
Jewelry has a limitation on Farm Bureau policies of $2,000.
Since jewelry can have a wide range of values, items of more value need to have an appraisal with a color photograph from a jeweler.
In our experience, by having this on file, it has helped recover stolen jewelry items.
Who should be named on my policy?
All members of your household should be listed on your policy. There are benefits for adding your children to your policy even if they aren’t old enough to drive. One of the benefits of having them on your policy is the accidental death benefit coverage. If this coverage is selected, there is no charge for children under driving age, This provides a death benefit if one of the members of the policy were to pass away from an auto accident.
We can also help eliminate gaps and reduce expense if your child is already on the policy before they get their drivers license.
Do I need an umbrella policy?
The short answer is that it depends. If you ask a lawyer, they would say that everyone needs an Umbrella Policy. The other common phrase that you might have heard before is “You don’t have to be a millionare to be sued like one.”
One of the main goals of an umbrella policy is to keep liability claims within policy limits. This is important because once a liability claim is settled, and damages exceed your liability limits, then the claimant can potentially force you to liquidate assets. This can include things like property, your ownership in a business that you’ve built, or savings.
As you accumulate assets, and pay off liabilities, it’s important to protect what you’ve built. We think this is one of the best reasons to have an agent that can help you figure out if you need an umbrella or not.
